Hello, fellow advocates! Get ready to rally to save the Chase Avenue Shared Use Path.
Our community's commitment to creating safer, more connected streets is beig challenged once again, and we need your support at Wednesday’s Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee Meeting to ensure the preservation of a vital shared-use path that has already been approved, twice, but faces potential cancellation due to a single homeowner's preference for parking cars on the public swale in front of their house.
THE BACKGROUND
For 10 years, our community has advocated for a shared-use path that promotes pedestrian safety, active transportation, and connectivity on Chase Avenue.
After extensive planning and input from community members, this shared-use path has been approved twice. However, we now face a roadblock as a single homeowner's objection threatens to derail this project at Wednesday’s PSNQL Committee meeting.
This project will add substantial safe street facilities to our transportation network– our safety depends on it!
THE CHALLENGE
The homeowner in question apparently prefers to park their cars on the public swale, jeopardizing the implementation of the approved shared-use path.
While we respect individual perspectives, it is crucial to prioritize the safety and well-being of the entire community and preserve the purpose of public spaces.
Safety concerns have been brought up, however, we believe those to be unfounded and lack any supporting data. This project has been approved, with safety expressly prioritized, by Miami Beach’s Transportation Department, Miami-Dade County’s Transportation Department, and the Florida Department of Transportation (as part of receiving a key grant).
If the shared-use path project is postponed or canceled, our community stands to lose a state grant of $500,000 that has been secured. This grant is money that greatly benefits our neighborhood– improving safety, accessibility, and quality of life. Losing this grant would mean passing up a valuable resource that would greatly enhance our community.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
We need your support to demonstrate the collective desire for a safer and more connected neighborhood. Here's how:
Email the Commissioners on the PSNQL and ask them to get this path built: Click here!
Attend the Committee Meeting this Wednesday, July 12th at 3 PM!
(In-person or on Zoom, details below)
Spread the Word: Forward this email to friends and neighbors!
Together, we can ensure that our shared use path becomes a reality and fosters a safer, more vibrant community. Let's remind decision-makers that collective well-being should prevail over individual preferences.
